Folios 232-233: James Wilkes Maurice, Southampton Street, London. Receipt of letter to give his opinion of the application Mr Brydone, late Surgeon of the Island of Anholt, for additional pay for extra duty performed in attending Danish inhabitants and prisoners on the island, and to send a certificate he received from Lieutnant Steele in support of his claim. He believes the extra duty he performed was trivial, having occasaion to visit the inhabitants no more than twice a month. The attendance on the prisoners of war and the 11 amputations he was said to have preformed after the battle of 27 March [1812], in which he was assisted by 2 Surgeon's Assistants and 2 Danish, are no more extra duty than he would have had to perform on board any ship after a battle. He is of the opinion that he has no right to expect a remuneration.
