Description

Folios 121-122: M.Malbon, Stapleton Depot. Vessels with sliding keels sail fast and are good sea boats. If HMS Trial and HMS Cynthia had been built to this plan they would have been the first in the British Channel.

Folio 123: enclosure with folios 121-122 dated 14 October 1811 Admiralty Office to Captain M.Malbon, Stapleton Depot. They have received his letter with his opinion of vessels with a sliding keel and asks for more details regarding draught, how they carried sail, how they stowed men and provisions, and how they steered with the keel up or down and how they would behave in a gale. His initial report was unsatisfactory and not like one of an intelligent Officer.
