Folios 382-383: James Wilkes Maurice, at Anholt. Advising that Captain Lewis of the Engineers has completed his survey of the island, and is leaving this day in the Gluckstadt for Wingo Sound, and he is very confident of the report he will give. Encloses a return of the garrison's horses, saying that 8 of them are unserviceable, being too old or too small, and each must do the work of 6 men in overseeing the island. Asks for 6 fresh horses to be sent, or an order to purchase some from the neighbouring coast, and for directions about what to do with the unserviceable beasts, which are not worth their keep.
Folio 384: enclosure with folios 382-383. List of horses and their different uses and fitness, 39 altogether.
