Folios 342-343: Robert Mends, HMS Assistance, Portsmouth. Acknowledging receipt of Admiralty letter of 26 July, directing him to send his young relation, Tucker Mends, to the Naval College for examination on 2 August, preparatory to his being admitted as a student. However, the young man is at present aboard the Princess Caroline in the Baltic, so Mends asks that he may be discharged from her in order to return to Portsmouth.
