Folios 336-337: Donald McLeod, Regulating Captain, Liverpool. Replying to Admiralty query of 24 July, re Caleb Gibbs, Samuel Smith, George Harriss [sic], and James Camp. Says Gibbs does not appear on the books of the Rendezvous. Smith was impressed by Lt Timins on 18 June, an able seaman and shipwright aged 25, said he was born in New York. He has since produced the protection enclosed, but McLeod says this is 'evidently not intended for him' as the man described is 7 inches shorter [but this doesn't seem correct, as he says in the letter that Gibbs is 5ft 4 1/2 ins, and the protection gives 5ft 4 3/4 ins]. Harris was impressed by Lt Archbold on 15 July as an able seaman aged 21, saying he was born in New Orleans. Camp was impressed by Lt Walker 17 July as an ordinary seaman aged 23, said he was born in New York and produced a certificate in that name, for 1809, but McLeod suspects he was not the right person.
Folio 338: enclosure with folios 336-337. Protection certificate dated 15 June 1810 signed by the Collector of New York David Gelston, for Samuel Smith.
Folio 339: enclosure with folios 336-337. Certificate from the District of Newport, Rhode Island, for Calebb Gibbs, American seaman aged 14.
Folio 340: enclosure with folios 336-337. Certificate dated 2 October 1809 and numbered 18099, District of Philadelphia, for George Harris, aged 19, a native of New Orleans.
Folio 341: enclosure with folios 336-337. Printed certificate of citizenship for James Camp, of New York, 'a black man', a mariner aged about 20, for his protection, signed 17 May 1809.
