Folios 325-326: Robert Mends, HMS Assistance, Portsmouth. As directed by Mr Yorke he is sending a birth certificate and reference of good conduct for his 'young relation' [note on rear says he is also called Mends] who is a candidate for entry to the Portsmouth Naval College. He has been at sea with Mends for about a year and assures their Lordships that he is a very 'fine and well-disposed' boy.
