Description

Folios 199-200: Donald M'Leod [Donald MacLeod], Regulating Officer, Liverpool. Reply to letter dated 4 March 1811. He states (1) William Roscoe entered with Lieutenant Raye on 11 February 1811 as a Boy aged 17 years born in Chester. He said he could not get employment and that he was not an Apprentice. Reply to letter dated 5 March 1811. He states (2) James Smart was impressed by Lieutenant William Archbold on 20 February 1811 aged 18 years born in Greenock. He was claimed by the Master of the Vessel as an Apprentice but he acknowledge in the presence of the Master that he had sailed with a Captain McLean of wages at £3 per month for four months previous to his being bound. (3) He informs that a Portuguese Seaman named Jose Domingo came forward on 17 December 1810 (Voluntarily) to give evidence against some rioters who had the night before broke open the Rendevous in Strand Street and liberated two impressed Men. He was sent on board HMS Princess to retain him as a Evidence. The matter having been determined by the Magistrate here; and the Men applying for his discharge. He request his discharge be allowed.

Folios 201-202: enclosure with folios 199-200. Letter dated 2 March 1811 by Colin Douglass & P N R [?], Liverpool, to the Admiralty. Requests the discharge of James Smart.

Folios 203-204: enclosure with folios 199-200. Letter dated 2 March 1811 by Mary Roscoe c/o Mr Peter Roscoe, Flour Dealer, No 7 Seddon Street, Liverpool, to the Admiralty. Request for her son William Roscoe to be discharged.
