Description

Folios 185-186: Donald M'Leod [Donald MacLeod], Regulating Officer, Liverpool. Reply to letter dated 25 February 1811. He states that John Bowden was impressed by Lieutenant Henry Raye on 19 February 1811 aged 19 years born in Northwich. He was taken as stated in Mr Worrals letter for being active in a tumultuous assembly of People to obstruct the Service. But from his real goods Character and (on a reinvestigation) perceiving he is not so culpable as at first represented. He Commends him to their Lordship's notice. Samuel Southern was impressed by Lieutenant Evans on 20 February 1811 aged 20 born in Prescott. He was, when taken, very drunk and said he was a Midshipman of HMS Princess. He next said he came here in the Tiger and after the inclosed Indenture was produced to claim him as belonging to the Barton. The date of which appears to have been 1806 since altered to 1809.

Folios 187-188: enclosure with folios 185-186. Letter dated 23 February 1811 by Barton, Arlam and Higginson, Liverpool, to the Admiralty. States that their Apprentice Samuel Southern was impressed and is now on HMS Princess. They request he be discharged.

Folios 189-190: enclosure with folios 185-186> Letter dated 21 February 1811 by James Worral, Liverpool, to the Admiralty. Petition of James Worral Master Black Maker of Liverpool. States the Petitioner is agent to Mr Robert Hadfield and others residing at Northwich in Cheshire, Owners of a Flat or Vessel called the Phoebe, trading between Northwich and Liverpool, and navigated by a Master and one crew. States the Petitioner and others did provide & pay for two substitutes in order to protect the people of their Vessel. Request the boy be discharged.
