Description

Folios 171-172: Donald M'Leod [Donald MacLeod], Regulating Officer, Liverpool. Reply to letter dated 22 February 1811. He states that:- (1) Thomas Kirkham was impressed by Lieutenant W Archbald on 17 February 1811 aged 23 years born in Runcorn. He had a Protection as a Hand employed in the Marr's Flatt belonging to J Chantler Turner Esq : a Protection of Flats employed on the Sankey and Weaver Navigation. But it appears the Marrs he sailed in as a registered vessel trading as a Coaster ti Ireland etc. Therefore not entitled to Protection given, which he considers Fraudulently obtained. (2) Edward Hughes entered with Lieutenant Henry Raye on 16 February 1811 as a Landsman Volunteer aged 18 years born in Denbeigh. He positively denied being an Apprentice, (3) Robert Thompson was impressed by Lieutenant Thomas Evans on 16 February 1811 aged 32 born in Stockholm. Lieutenant Thomas Evans assures him that he appended this man on information of a Woman named Owens who positively affirms that a Woman who lives next door to her in Darvins Vint[?] formally called Mary Charles had declared to her that she was the lawful Wife of the above Robert Thompson and that she was then three Months pregnant by him.

Folios 173-174: enclosure with folios 171-172. Letter dated 20 February 1811 by Joseph Kirkham. at Mrs Bradshaw's, Queen Street, Liverpool, to the Admiralty. Requests that his son Thomas Kirkham be discharged.

Folios 175-176: enclosure with folios 171-172. Letter dated 21 February 1811 by Andrew Davison, at R Place, Liverpool, to the Admiralty. Requests that his apprentice Edward Hughes be discharged.

Folios 177-178: Enclosures with folios 171-172. Letter dated 21 February 1811 by Robert Thompson, at Mr Lawson's, Corner of Grayson Street, Liverpool, to the Admiralty. Having been impressed he encloses his Protection and requests he be discharged.

Folios 179-180: Enclosures with folios 171-172. Protection Certificate for Robert Thompson, dated 3 July 1810. Signed:- B Ward, James Buller and J[?]ther.

Folios 181-182: Enclosures with folios 171-172. Affidavit of Elizabeth Bennett sworn before Thomas Golightly, Justice of the Peace for the Borough of Liverpool in the County of Lancaster, spinster. Swore that she is the Housekeeper in Grayson Street Liverpool. That Robert Thompson formerly of Stockholm in Sweden has been a lodger in her house for nine years and that he was never married.
