Description

Folios 206-207: Frederick Lewis Maitland, HMS Emerald, Cove of Cork. Advises that Charles Maitland joined his ship from Plymouth after carrying the Wasp of New York. Encloses an affidavit sworn by him and asks that the Admiralty alter their decision in respect of his passing certificate.

Folios 208-209: enclosed with folios 207-207. Affidavit dated 24 September 1810 by Charles Maitland, Midshipman, HMS Emerald before John Davies, County Cork. Gives an oath that he did not alter or cause to be altered the Certificate of his age.

Folios 210-211: enclosed with folios 206-207. Note dated 11 October 1810 by the Admiralty about the Sea Lord's opinion on Mr. Maitland's case. Recommends the objection under which Mr Maitland suffers be removed.

Folios 212-213: enclosed with folios 206-207. Letter dated 15 October 1810 by Rear Admiral Sir Joseph Yorke to the Admiralty. Advises that as the examination of Mr. Maitland was originally procured by the production of an altered baptismal certificate he suggests that he should undergo a fresh examination.

Folios 214-215: enclosed with folios 206-207. Note dated 22 November 1810 by the Admiralty about removing Mr. Maitland and Mr. Cooke's name from the Black Book. Advises that Mr. Maitland made an affidavit to his ignorance of the alteration made to his Baptismal certificate and suggests Mr. Cooke should do likewise.
