Folios 173-174: Donald M'Leod, Regulating Officer, Liverpool. Advises that John Hughes, born in Liverpool, entered with Lieutenant Raye as an Ordinary Volunteer. He said he had been on several sea voyages and entered service because his brother had entered as a Substitute in some other name a few days ago and is on board HMS Princess.
Folios 175-176: enclosed with folios 173-174. Letter dated 19 October 1810 by Lieutenant Colonel William Earle, Liverpool Regiment, Local Militia, Liverpool. Advises that John Hughes on board HMS Princess is a private soldier in the Liverpool Regiment of the Local Militia under his command.
