Description

Folios 162-163: Donald M'Leod, Regulating Officer, Liverpool. Advises that John Hudson, born in Liverpool, was impressed by Lieutenant Potter as an Ordinary Seaman. He said he had been on a voyage to Brazil and back on Trial. Advises that John and George Thornhill, born in Manchester, entered with Lieutenant Potter as boy volunteers. Advises that John Lomax entered with Lieutenant Evans as a boy volunteer. All declared they were not apprentices.

Folios 164-165: enclosed with folios 162-163. Letter dated 18 October 1810 by David Hastie, 61, Cable Street, Liverpool, to the Admiralty. Advises that John Lomax eloped from his Master and entered into the Navy and is on board HMS Princess. Encloses evidence that he is an apprentice of William Lees , Manchester. Asks for his discharge.

Folios 166-167: enclosed with folios 162-163. Petition dated 18 October 1810 by James Thornhill, Manchester to the Admiralty. Advises that his 2 sons, George, aged about 12, and John Thornhill, who was laid up in Manchester Infirmary with scurvy, will be of little benefit in HM service. Asks for their discharge.

Folios 168-169: enclosed with folios 162-163. Letter dated 18 October 1810 by Thomas Hayton, Liverpool to the Admiralty. Advises that John Hudson is one of his Apprentices belonging to the Wellwood of which he is owner. Advises that he was impressed at the end of a voyage of trial and asks for a discharge for the boy. Advises he had previously applied for protection for all the crew of the Wellwood, which is bound for Lisbon.
