Description

Folios 139-140: Donald M'Leod, Regulating Officer, Liverpool. Advises that Robert Griffiths, born in Wales was impressed by Lieutenant Raye on 19 August. He claims to have come to Liverpool in the Ainslee, a Dublin Packet. He produced a discharge ticket which he has sent to the Admiralty. Advises that William Whittaker, born in Warrington, who was entered by Lieutenant Raye, denies being an Apprentice.

Folios 141-142: enclosed with folios 139-140. Letter dated 11 October 1810 by Robert Griffiths, HMS Princess, Liverpool to the Admiralty. Advises he served on board HMS Cleopatra under Captain Sir Robert Lawrie as a Seaman but was wounded and sent to Plymouth Hospital where he was invalided. Advises he lost his ticket and was impressed on shore and sent on board HMS Princess. Asks to be discharged.

Folios 143-144: enclosed with folios 139-140. Letter dated 12 October 1810 by Rover & Nicholson to the Admiralty. Encloses an indenture of Apprenticeship and the Certificate of an affidavit made before a Magistrate for the County of Lancaster naming William Whitaker who has been impressed and on board HMS Princess. Asks for his discharge.

Folio 145: enclosed with folios 139-140. Certificate dated 12 October 1810 by Isaac Blackburne, Justice of the Peace in the County of Lancaster. Certifies that Sarah Whitley, of Warrington, widow and an Executor named in the last will and testament of William Whitley, late of Warrington, made an oath that her trade is an Iron founder and William Whitaker was bound as an Apprentice to William Whitley on 13 February 1807 for 7 years. He quit her service without consent on 10 October and is aged 14 years.
