Description

Folios 132-133: Donald M'Leod, Regulating Officer, Liverpool. Encloses 2 letters he has received from the Superintendent of Police and a Constable of Liverpool claiming a reward for the apprehension and conviction of several rioters tried at Lancaster. Asks for the Admiralty's Solicitor's opinion and directions.

Folios 134-135: enclosed with folios 132-133. Letter dated 9 October 1810 by John Miller, Superintendent of Police to Captain Donald M'Leod. Encloses a Hand Bill and reports that he apprehended James Wheeler and Richard Hill, both American Seamen who were convicted at the last Lancaster Assizes for rioting and breaking the Rendezvous Houses on 18 July. Asks for the offered reward. Encloses a copy of the Hand Bill dated 25 July 1810 offering 50 Guineas for apprehending any of the American Seamen convicted for rioting and convicted at Lancaster Assizes.

Folios 136-137: enclosed with folios 132-133. Letter dated 9 October 1810 by [M Lerring?], Constable of Liverpool to Captain Donald M'Leod. Reports that he apprehended Henry Phelan, John Ward, George Skerrett, Mark Collins, Joseph Peat, James Thomas and William Clay who were convicted at the last Lancaster Assizes for rioting and forcibly entering the Rendezvous Houses and destroying furniture on 23 July. Also reports he apprehended John Brough who forcibly entered the Rendezvous Houses, broke open the Prep Room of the Bird Street Rendezvous House and released an impressed man. Asks for the reward offered in the Hand Bill.
