Folios 90-91: Samuel Mottley, Regulating Captain, Gravesend. Replying to Admiralty letter of 19 July with regard to John Smith states he was found stowed away on board the Ocean East India ship and impressed by Lieutenant Jordan on 6 July. He is 5ft 4 1/2in high and was born in Portsmouth and is 31 years old. By trade a joiner and had been 20 months at sea. Returns the application.
Folio 92: enclosure with folios 90-91. Application for Discharge of Impressed Men dated 19 July 1810. States John Smith impressed on 6 July from the Ocean at Gravesend. Application made by William Brailey Skinner, Bishopsgate an acquaintance. Reason given - has aged father and mother to support.
