Folios 264-265: David Milne, Commander of Sea Fencibles Leith. He encloses a letter from Lieutenant Edgar, commanding the signal station at Calton Hill, Edinburgh. The latter wrote that a mob had set fire to the furze pile and he could not prevent this. Asks for directions for the Lieutenant to purchase another pile of furze and charge this on his next set of accounts. The pillar close to the signal station, erected in memory of Lord Nelson was illuminated the evening of the 21st. This attracted a large mob who set fire to the furze.
