Description

Folios 208-209: Robert Mends, Regulating Captain, Liverpool. Responds to queries concerning various impressed persons and encloses documents. William Dale aged 21 years and born in Wales. He was impressed by Lieutenant Evans. Robinson claimed to be a Mate of the Preston of Liverpool and a distance from his ship while busy assisting the escape of a man from the Press Gang. Robert Mills aged 45 years and born at Leigh. He came to Liverpool from the West Indies in the Lord Rodney and was impressed by Lieutenant Evans. Richard Stringer aged 32 years and born in Yorkshire. He had been Master of the Nelson Flat owned by Mr. F. Smith of Yorkshire. He was impressed by Lieutenant Evans. Josiah Almond aged 24 years and born in Blackburn. He entered himself with Lieutenant Clarke. Hans Heniman aged 23 years and claimed to be a native of Sweden. He was impressed by Lieutenant Evans. Heniman produced Protection but this did not fit his appearance. The application is made by a Jew, a Crimp of the Town. The Captain recommends the Case of Arthur Trenor, Chief Mate of the Glenmore of Liverpool, aged 22 years and born in Newry. He was impressed by Lieutenant Rees. Trenor has to support an infirm widowed mother and a large family. There are two brothers already in the Navy. The Captain acknowledges the receipt of his appointment to the command of the Arethusa.

Folios 210-211: enclosure with folios 208-209. Letter dated 22nd August 1808 by John and Margaret Dale to the Admiralty. They ask for the discharge of William Dale of the Preston, their son of 5 other children and their main support due to their infirmities. Preston is now on HMS Princess. They offer to provide a suitable Landsman as a substitute.

Folio 212: enclosure with folios 208-209. Letter dated 22nd August 1808 by Thomas Vaisey, 4 Leather Lane, Liverpool to the Admiralty. He encloses a petition.

Folios 213-214: enclosure with folios 208-209. Letter dated 21st August 1808 by Robert Mills, HMS Princess to the Admiralty. He asks for his discharge, is aged 59 years, feeble and infirm, not a seaman and a wife and five children to support.

Folios 215-216: enclosure with folios 208-209. Letter dated 19th August 1808 by Richard Stringer, HMS Princess to the Admiralty. He asks for his discharge having a wife and seven children to support.

Folios 217-218: enclosure with folios 208-209. Letter dated 19th August 1808 by Josiah Almond, HMS Princess to the Admiralty. He asks for his discharge. He worked in the cotton industry, has an elderly infirm parents and is their support. He was never at sea.

Folios 219-220: enclosure with folios 208-209. Letter dated 23rd August 1808 by Isaac Henry, Old Dock to the Admiralty. He encloses the Protection of Hans Henaman and asks for Henaman's discharge from HM Princess. under Captain Colquitt.

Folios 221-222: enclosure with folios 208-209. Protection Template dated 23rd October 1807 by John Barrow, Secretary to the Admiralty signed by Sir Richard Bickerton, William Johnstone Hope and Robert Plumer Ward. Lists the description of Hans Henaman, born [Hogemass?] Sweden.
