Folios 198-199: Robert Mends, Regulating Captain, Liverpool. Responds to the query concerning Thomas Sloane, Mate on the Fame, Liverpool. Sloane is aged 23 years and born in Liverpool. He was impressed and taken on shore a great distance from the ship. The detail enclosed is believed to be correct and the Captain asks for the terms of discharge.
Folio 200-201: enclosure with folios 198-199. Letter dated 19 August 1808 by Neilson & Heathcote, Ship Owners Liverpool, to the Admiralty. State that Thomas Sloane is Chief Mate in the Fame and supports an aged mother. Sloane has been impressed twice. The first occasion he was released from the Rendezvous following an affidavit provided by the Captain. Sloane is now on board HMS princess and cannot be released without sanction from the Lords of the Admiralty. The Fame is nearly ready to sail and the whole of the cargo on aboard. The Ship Owners ask a favour of releasing Sloane without a substitute
