Description

Folios 95-96: Robert Mends, Regulating Captain, Liverpool. Replies to the enquiries concerning imprest of Richard Blackmore, imprest by Lieutenant Baly as an Able Seaman, aged 25 years born in Devonshire. He stated that he was the Mate of the Concord from Ilfracombe and had been at sea 13 years. He was taken on shore & the vessel had no argo. But on examination, had a defective knee. John Crompton entered himself with Lieutenant Evans as A L M Volunteer aged 18 years, born at Bolton. His assertions appear incorrect. His discharge is requested. Richard Horne was imprest by Lieutenant Baly as an Ordinary Seaman, aged 22 years and born in Suffolk. He stated he was the Mate of the Favourite of Yarmouth, The vessel had no cargo. He was taken on shore. There is no information on the other matter in his application. Edward Philips was imprest by Lieutenant Evans and entered himself as a L M Volunteer aged 24 years and born in Connaught. He did not claim to be an Apprentice and the indenture may not be genuine.

Folios 97-98: enclosure with folios 95-96. Letter dated 21 July 1808 by Thomas Keating, of 111 Park lane, Liverpool to the Admiralty. He asks for the discharge of Richard Blackmore, Mate of the Concord and born in Devon. Robert Moon is the Master of the Concord. Blackmore has an injured knee from a fall, he is lame and often in pain.

Folios 99-100: enclosure with folios 95-96. Affidavit dated 11 November 1805 by Robert Moon, Master of the Concord, Devon to the Admiralty. Taken on oath before William Miller Ilfracombe. He asks for the discharge of Richard Blackmore who doesn't belong to any ship, but is frequently on shore on Notary Business.

Folios 101-102: enclosure with folios 95-96. Letter by George Crompton, Bolton to the Admiralty. He describes how his brother John was imprest and asks for his discharge

Folios 103-104: enclosure with folios 95-96. Letter dated 25 July 1808 by Robert Turner, Master of the Favourite Brig to the Admiralty. Asks for the discharge of Richard Horne, Mate of the Favourite, who arrived from Ipswich laden with a cargo of corn and had directions when the cargo was unloaded to sail to Wales to load up with coal. However he was imprest and is now on HMS Princess. Horne is an honest man, a widower with two small children to support.

Folios105-106: enclosure with folios 95-96. Letter dated 9 July 1808 by [RurtSmart and Buchanan?] Ipswich to Captain Robert Turner, Brig Favourite, Post Office, Liverpool. When your cargo has been delivered to Messrs Makin and Sutton, proceed to Milford near Pembroke for coal. He cannot procure the port requested. Select the largest and best coal. Draw on Factors Messrs Greenside and Co, Mark Lane London for the amount on account.

Folios 107-108: enclosure with folios 95-96. Letter dated 19 July 1808 by [RurtSmart and Buchanan?] Ipswich to Captain Robert Turner, Brig Favourite. They were surprised to receive a letter from Makin and Sutton to learn that Captain Turner was anxiously expecting a letter from them. The directions for the Brig are to proceed to Milford and apply to Mr. H. Wilson of Cresswell near Pembroke who will procure the coals, taking care to get the best quality and draw on our Factors Messrs Greenside and Co, Mark Lane London for the amount of the cargo at the usual date.

Folios 109-110: enclosure with folios 95-96. Letter dated 21 June 1808 by [RurtSmart and Buchanan?] Ipswich to Captain Robert Turner, Brig Favourite. They instruct the delivery of corn to Messrs Makin and Sutton and a Bill of loading. For the Welsh coal, apply to Mr. H. Wilson of Cresswell near Pembroke in Milford The type ordered are Barlows, check that they are dry and large. Messrs Greenside and Co, are Corn Factors and contact for the account this will be duly honoured.

Folio 111: enclosure with folios 95-96. Template dated 26 July 1808 completed to the Admiralty. Discharge document for impressment completed for Edward Phillips, Apprentice, as requested by Joseph [Dales?] Master following the evident Indenture.
