Folios 82-83: Robert Mends, Regulating Captain, Liverpool. Replies to several enquiries and returns the enclosures. Thomas McDougall was imprest by Lieutenant Baly as an Able Seaman, aged 24 years and born in Rothesay, He stated he was the Mate of the Isabella (which had no cargo on board). John Thomas was imprested by Lieutenant Clarke as an Ordinary Seaman aged 18 years and born in Northwich. He stated he had employment in flats owned by Messrs Marshall, Ohell and Naylor. The affidavit is a gross example of perjury. John Carter entered himself with Lieutenant Baly as a Boy Volunteer aged 17 years and born in Yorkshire and was not an apprentice.
Folio 84-85: enclosure with folios 82-83. Letter dated 21 July 1808 by James McKirdy, Part Owner of the Isabella and John McKirdy Master, of the Rothesay, lying in Liverpool, to the Admiralty. Encloses a petition. Asks for the reply to be sent to Mr. Irvin's address 123 Duke Street, Liverpool.
Folios 86-87: enclosure with folios 82-83. Letter dated 21 July 1808 by James McKirdy, Part Owner of the Isabella and John McKirdy Master, of the Rothesay, lying in Liverpool to the Admiralty. Encloses the petition of Thomas McDougali who was imprest from the Isabella. As Chief Mate, he requested to be released but was denied by Captain Mends and is now in one of the tenders on the Mersey. Two affidavits are enclosed.
Folio 88: enclosure with folios 82-83. Affidavit document dated 22 April 1808 by James McKirdy to the Admiralty. This affidavit was sworn before John Ashvin, JP at Rothsay and certifies that Thomas McDougall aged about 23 years is the Chief Mate of the Isabella and responsible for the cargo.
Folios 89-90: enclosure with folios 82-83. Letter dated 23 July 1808 by [..?] to the Admiralty. Detail concerning John Carter, Apprentice to the author of the letter, now on board HMS Princess.
Folios 91-92: enclosure with folios 82-83. Letter dated 23 July 1808 by Elizabeth Thomas, Liverpool to the Admiralty. Encloses an affidavit by her brothers concerning John Thomas and a copy of his Baptism revealing his age to be 15 years. The Press Gang dragged John from her side and took him into a house. The Regulating Captain sent him on board HMS Princess as a volunteer. She asks for compassion as she is widowed with 2 small children.
Folio 93: enclosure with folios 82-83. Document dated 12 June 1808 by G. [O'Kell?] Minister to the Admiralty. Copy from the Register in the Witton Chapel, Cheshire of the Baptismal details concerning John Thomas of Thommy, born to James, Ships Carpenter and Betty Thommy of Northwich on 7th October 1792.
Folio 94: enclosure with folios 82-83. Affidavit document dated 23 July 1808 by John Thomas Senior, sworn before Thomas Golightly JP, Liverpool, to the Admiralty. It is stated that John Thomas, a boy of 16 years was seized by the Press Gang on 9th June when walking with his widowed Mother. The boy was never at sea nor employed with boats. His Mother Betty Thomas is a poor widow with two small children.
