Folios 130-131: George McKinley, HMS Lively, River Tagus. Reports that HMS Millbrook captured the Spanish brig Conception on 3 March. She had been driven from the island of St Michaels, where she was landing her cargo, by gales. The Master and Mate were on shore. She is loaded with cocoa and dyed wool. Lieutenant Leach was sending her to England, but the gales and her poor state forced him to put in to the River Tagus. The Portugese Government has today placed an embargo on her at the request of the Spanish Minister on the grounds that she was taken under the protection of Portugese forts. She will be out of quarantine tomorrow, when Captain McKinley will give full details to Lord Strangford to procure her clearance.
