Folios 264-265: Nicholas Lockyer, HMS Hound, Woolwich.
Refers to an enclosed letter from Zephania B Ostler, lately purser of HMS Hound, that was forwarded by the Admiralty. He believes the content to be correct but states that the illness should have been reported before the ship sailed from Flushing. Asks that the R be removed from the name. Also encloses a statement from Mr Ostler.
Folios 266-267: enclosure with folios 264-265. Zephania Ostler, HMS Hound, Woolwich, 31 October 1809. Writes to explain the circumstances in which he was left ashore at Flushing when he was taken ill at the island of Walcheren. Finding himself left behind he took a passage with HMS King George and immediately wrote to Lockyer when he arrived at Harwich. Asks for the R to be removed from his name as he had no intention of deserting.
Folios 268-269: enclosure with folios 264-265. Signed John [?Damer], Admiralty Office, 31 October 1809 writes to Lockyer enclosing a letter from Mr Ostler.
