Refers to an enclosed letter from Lieutenant Templar of the sutton Signal Port and asks for directions.
Folios 247-248: enclosure with folios 245-246. Templar, Signal Station Sutton, 29 October 1809.
Writes to David Lloyd, Sea Fencibles Boston, reporting that a soldier came from the County Beacon and informed him that a boat with five men had landed close to the beacon saying that they had escaped from a French prison. Going to the place he found the five men , one was the carpenter's mate of HMS Magnificent, Captain Jervis, when she was cast away off Brest on 25 March 1804. He was taken prisoner with Lieutenant Leverconte and seventy five men including some from HMS Impetueux which had gone to the assistance of HMS Magnificent. He was in prison until 6 July 1809 when he escaped with others via Holland. Details follow.
He lists the men detained at the signal station: William Fitzgerald from HMS Magnificent, Thomas Green a Prussian, Peter Doyle an Irishman, James Lewis a black American and Peter C Fleming from a French privateer.
