Folios 176-177: William Granville Lobb, HMS Pomone, in the Tagus. States a report being current through Lisbon, that a Ship from the Brazils had fell in with an English Fleet in distress, occasioned his making a minute enquiry into the fact, the enclosed information is what he obtained from the Master of her. The Lisbon and Oporto Trade under protection of HMS Jamaica and HMS Constance, with HMS Hearty Gun Vessel, sailed on 29 December 1805, HMS Star ordered to accompany them a s far as [position given]. HMS Beagle arrived on 27 December 1805 arrived from Gibraltar with, and for the Mails.

Folios 179-180: enclosure with folios 176-177. From off the Topaze, to William Granville Lobb, HMS Pomone. Dated [no date shown]. The good Dispatch Ship from Brazil on the 4 November 1805 in [position given], fell in with an English Fleet of 70 Sail, some of them dismasted, one Line of Battle Ship wore a Broad Pendant this ship sent her boat on board him, they did not say whence they came, or where bound; he heard that two of the Ships had been last on the Coast and he consider them then in danger if the weather came bad. One of the Men of War had lost her Mizen Mast. They were at this time near Cape St Rogue. On being asked if they were Indiamen, Merchant Ships, or Transports he replied many of them were Transports and that one passed him having marked on her side No 180. They enquired after English, Spanish and French Men of War, and said they were going to Bahia for refreshments...... [no continuation of the report].
