Description

Folios 131-132: William Granville Lobb, HMS Pomone, Lisbon. Acknowledge your orders to take HMS Avon, HMS Coureux, HMS Star and HMS Hearty under his Command, and receipt of your letter dated 16 November[?] 1805 with their directions to furnish the necessary protection for the Homeward bound trade rom Oporto and Lisbon; upon application being made to him for that purpose, which he has communicated to his Majesty's Consul General; the difficulty of getting a Convoy out of Oporto, this season of the year, will make it necessary to grant separate ones, as it would be attended with great inconvenience. [Total of two plus sides. Mentions:-] Spanish Row Boats, Oporto, Viana, HMS Constance, Jamaica, Newfoundland, Vigo, Two Spanish and one French Line of Battle Ships with a Frigate of the former nation. The Topaze French Frigate is nearly ready for Sea and expected to sail in a few days, he intends going out on the 6 December 1805 and to remain in the Offing in hopes of falling in with her. He has received information that HMS Hearty Gun Brig was run down & valuable Neutral, when he has the particulars he will acquaint them. He expects it will be accompanied with other complaints he has received from her Commander.

Folios 133-134: enclosure with folios 131-132. Information how the Spanish Row Boats Privateers are to be known by His majesty's Ships on this Coast. [Total of two plus sides with descriptions of the different types of row boats]. Signed William Granville Lobb
