Folios 94-95: William Granville Lobb, HMS Pomone, Downs. Reply to letter dated 19 April 1805 he states that he very highly approve of the Carronades fitted on the non-recoil principle on board HMS Pomone and he dose not conceive ant danger can result to the rigging or lanyards, from five in discharging them; in his opinion less so that if Guns were placed there as the muzzle of a 9 Pounder would be two feet within the lanyards; and the Carronades are three feet forward and it's impossible to carry them away. In exercise he achieved Twenty rounds in fifteen minutes using four men, He has always found 32 Pounders require seven men.
