Description

Folios 84-85: William Granville Lobb, HMS Pomone, Downs. States as directed by Rear Admiral Bartholomew Samuel Rowley he reports on the following cases:- John Hill said to be Mate of the Britannia was pressed on shore in London, taken on board HMS Enterprize, afterwards sent to HMS Zealand; he appears unfit for his situation as Mate as he can neither read or write. Griffiths Roberts said to Mate of the Union, was pressed in London, and sent on board HMS Zealand from HMS Enterprize, he can neither read or write or in other respects does he appear to him qualified for the situation of Mate. William Rowlandson said to be an apprentice answers the description specified in his indentures, was impressed in London, out of the ship's boat, he belonged to; he appears between sixteen and seventeen years of age.

Folios 86-87: enclosure with folios 84-85. Letter dated 13 April 1805 by Thomas Ferguson, No 3 George Yard, Lombard Street, to the Admiralty. Covering letter for the enclosed [not present] indenture of apprenticeship of William Ronaldson who was impressed and is now on HMS Zealand at the Nore, Requests his immediate discharge.

Folios 88-89: enclosure with folios 84-85. Letter dated 13 April 1805 by Thomas Ferguson, No 3 George Yard, Lombard Street. To Admiralty. Covering letter for the enclosed [not present] Affidavit of Thomas Wrightson Master of the Britannia stating that John Hill was really and bona fide Mate of the said ship who is now on HMS Pomone. Requests his immediate discharge.

Folios 90-91: enclosure with folios 84-85. Letter dated 13 April 1805 by Thomas Ferguson, No 3 George Yard, Lombard Street. To Admiralty. Covering letter for the enclosed [not present] Certificate from the Port of Liverpool certifying that Griffiths Roberts was really and bona fide Mate of the ship Union, who was impressed and is now on HMS Pomone. Requests his immediate discharge.
