Folios 276-277: John Wentworth Loring, HMS Bellerophon, Portsmouth Harbour. Reply to letter of 2 October 1804 and acquaint them that having received a verbal order from Vice Admiral Sir John Thomas Duckworth to enter the Foreigners as Volunteers to serve as Private Royal Marines on board HMS Bellerophon but did not promise them any Bounty. On enquiry he finds that the Late Captain of Royal Marines had given them to understand they would receive it, on the ships arrival in England, as in all probability they would be sent to Quarters, where they were discharged on 25 September 1804 by order of Admiral George Montagu and have received three Guineas at Quarters on being found serviceable men.
