Folios 274-275: John Wentworth Loring, HMS Bellerophon, Portsmouth Harbour. States Lieutenant George Lawrence Saunders of HMS Bellerophon labouring under a very anxious circumstance respecting his confirmation from an R being set against him while serving in HMS Aurora when quit a youth, and on a proper enquiry being made by Captain Fooke [George Fowke] who he served with in HMS Proselyte and also with him. Representation was made and the R was taken off. Since which he has served his regular time and was made a Lieutenant by Vice Admiral Sir John Thomas Duckworth on 26 December 1802 and he does recommend him as a very capable. He requests conformation which Vice Admiral Sir John Thomas Duckworth will be much interested in.
