Description

Folios 228-229: John Larmour, HMS Clyde, Leith Roads. Responds to directions to state the case of the impress of Joseph Dixon, Carpenter, the Trelawney, following the request from Thomas Coats, Master of that vessel. Advises that Captain Pelly pressed him because there were no papers on board to prove he was Carpenter of the vessel. Advises that he has taken the Revenue vessels under his command, as ordered, and at present has 2 cruising with a Lieutenant pressing seamen.

Folio 230: enclosed with folios 228-229. Petition dated 25 March 1803 by Thomas Coats, South Shields, Durham, Master of the Trelawney belonging to Newcastle to the Admiralty. Advises that the |Trelawney was proceeding up the River Thames on 12 March 1803 when an Officer of HMS Harpy boarded her and impressed Joseph Dixon, Carpenter. Asks for his discharge.

Folio 231: enclosed with folios 228-229. Certificate dated 22 March 1803 by Thomas Coats sworn at the Public Office Shadwell before George Story. Certifies that Thomas Coats of South Shields, Durham, Master of the Trelawney belonging to Newcastle gave oath that his vessel was proceeding up the River Thames in Sea Reach with a cargo of coals for the London Market when she was boarded by an Officer of HMS Harpy and impressed Joseph Dixon, Carpenter who does not belong to or has deserted from any of His Majesty's Ships.
