Folios 370-371: Richard Gaire Janverin, Hull. Sending a return of the men raised for the service from 21 to 28 October, with names and the ships for which they have entered, to be forwarded to Rear Admiral Sir Charles Rowley. Advises that 6 of the men raised have not yet been discharged into HMS Jasper, as he has learnt there is insufficient bedding even for those men already on board. He has written to Sir Charles, asking that in future any ships sent to pick up raised men should be instructed to provide themselves with extra slops and bedding accordingly. Points out that the men rarely join until they have parted with most of their clothing, and one of the incentives to join given on the bills is the provision of good clothing and comfort - if they are disappointed of these promises it soon becomes known and deters others. Adds that the provision of regular tenders for receiving raised men would be better, since they would be under the command of the regulating officer and any irregularities could be soon dealt with.
