Folios 170-171: Robert Julyan, HMS Rolla, at sea. Writes to advise that the lieutenant who had been appointed his first, in January, turned out to be 'quite deranged' and Julyan had been obliged to send him to Plymouth hospital, while Lieutant Lowrey, who superseded him, is in very poor health and quite unsuited to a small vessel - he has been on the surgeon's list much of the time since joining. Asks that someone junior to his current second, Mr Lapesley, may be appointed, as the latter is an active young man.
