Folios 264-265: Richard Gaire Janverin, HMS Pluto, Spithead. Enclosed (on the other side of the letter] [Folio 264] is a copy of a letter written to the Trinity House some time ago together with their answer. The former Officer of the Fort at Portland had it in their power to prevent the proceeding alluded to, but the present one having no orders respecting the same, it is now practised without interruption and so far has the evil; proceeded that during the last Northerly Gales, scarce a vessel in the proper anchorage but what Drifted from her anchors, and two Merchant Vessels went on shore.

From Trinity House, London. To Richard Gaire Janverin, HMS Pluto. Dated 10 April 1806. Reply to lettre dated 19 March 1806 and in reply state that the Port and Harbour of Portland are not within the Jurisdiction of this Corporation.
