Description

Folios 251-252: Samuel Jackson, HMS Superb, Spithead. Reports the arrival at Spithead in HMS Superb with dispatches from Lord Collingwood addressed to the Admiralty which he sent to Admiral George Montague's [George Montagu's] Office. He encloses a copy of his orders for his return to England together with a list on Men Invalided from the different Ships under Admiral Lord Cuthbert Collingwood.

Folio 253: enclosure with folios 251-252. List of persons to be received on board HMS Superb for a passage to England. Mr Adair and Suite, 3 invalided from HMS Ocean, 7 Invalided from HMS Spartiate, 2 Invalided from HMS Canopus, 1 Invalided from HMS Malta a Midshipman, I Invalided from HMS Royal Sovereign - Lieutenant Shewen & 1 Man from HMS Canopus - discharged by Admiralty Order. In case of falling in with HMS Appolla [HMS Apollo?] you will take all her Prisoners to England:- as also such as may be at Gibraltar or in the fleet off Cadiz provided they do not exceed 200 in number. For the passage to Gibraltar or Fleet off Cadiz, Captain Irvine appointed to HMS Duchess of Bedford, Lieutenant Molesworth appointed to HMS Imperieuse.

Folios 254-255: enclosure with folios 251-252. Vice Admiral Lord Collingwood [Lord Cuthbert Collingwood (1st Baron Collingwood, of Caldburne and Hethpool)], HMS Ocean, at Sea, to Samuel Jackson, HMS Superb, dated 25 April 1808. Orders for Samuel Jackson to take people and dispatches to Gibraltar Bay, Cadiz and England. [Mentions:-] Palermo Bay, Admiral Edward Thornbrough, Mr Adair and Suite the late Minister to the Court of Vienna, Gibraltar Bay, the Governor [of Gibraltar], the Squadron off Cadiz, Rear Admiral John Child Purvis, Mr Pole. On entering the Channel you are to observe Quarantine laws and obtain Pratick [Pratique]. Enclosed list of passengers for England and Gibraltar. [see folio 253 above].
