Description

Folios 224-225: Charles Chamberlayne Irvine, [His Agent] Ommanney & Druce, [11] Cecil St, Strand. Covering letter for the enclosed copy of Vice Admiral Lord Collingwood [Lord Cuthbert Collingwood (1st Baron Collingwood, of Caldburne and Hethpool)] appointing Charles Chamberlayne Irvine Commander of HMS Espoir and request this be confirmed. He was appointed to the temporary Command of HMS Glatton, a copy of which order we also enclose.

Folios 226-227: enclosure with folios 224-225. Vice Admiral the Honourable Lord Cuthbert Collingwood [Lord Cuthbert Collingwood (1st Baron Collingwood, of Caldburne and Hethpool), HMS Ocean, at Sea, to Lieutenant Charles Chamberlayne Irvine, HMS Eagle, dated 22 April 1808. You are appointed to Act as Commander of HMS Espoir instead of Captain Henry Hope removed to HMS Glatton.

Folios 228-229: enclosure with folios 224-225. Orders dated 24 April 1808 by Vice Admiral Edward Thornbrough, HMS Royal Sovereign, Palermo, to Lieutenant Charles Chamberlayne Irvine, HMS Eagle. In pursuance of the direction of the Right Honourable Lord Collingwood. You are hereby required and directed to remain on board HMS Glatton in the Command of her until the arrival of HMS Espoir of which sloop his Lordship has appointed you Acting Commander.
