Description

Folios 218-219: Frederick Paul Irby, HMS Amelia, Downs. As per orders received form Vice Admiral John Holloway (Copy enclosed) he reports the arrival of HMS Amelia at this anchorage with the Quebec Trade, List enclosed [not present]. States that due to adverse winds he did not arrive in Quebec until the 19 July 1808 and having met HMS Nemesis on the 18 July 1808 in the River St Lawrence with a homeward bound fleet. he was induced to wait at Quebec till the several Ships loading for the Dock Yards were ready to sail and took that opportunity of shifting the Foremast it being very badly sprung during the the heavy gales. He left Quebec on 9 August 1808 and anchored off the Isle of Bic [Île du Bic] on 10 August 1808 when all the Ships having joined which he expected down, He sailed from thence on 13 August 1808. On 22 August 1808 in the night during a gale ten Ships parted company. On 25 August 1808 four more parted. The vessels bound to Liverpool & Milford parted off Scilly and he passed off Plymouth & Portsmouth. He reports that the whole of the Outward bound fleet which sailed under his Convoy arrived at Quebec.

Folios 220-221: enclosure with folios 218-219. Orders dated 27 April 1808 by Vice Admiral John Holloway, Newfoundland, to Frederick Paul Irby, HMS Amelia. Orders to take a convoy to Quebec as soon as possible to include the Eweretta, Mary, Duncombe & Dantwick. [Mentions the Gulph [Gulf] of St Lawrence around d the 15 July 1808].
