Folios 248-249: Samuel Jackson, HMS Mosquiito [Musquito], Yarmouth Roads. Replies to letter enclosing indentures and affidavit respecting Collin Smith. His reason for impressing him was that he believed that he had been longer at sea than stated in his indenture. Since that time the way he has performed his duty as a Seaman convinced him even more. he is now over 18 years of age and in every way suited for HM service.
Folios 250-251: enclosure with folios 248-249. Letter dated 19 June 1805 from Richard Simpson Junr, North Shields, to William Marsden, Admiralty. The enclosed indentures [not present] and affidavit show that the apprentice named was bound to serve at sea for 3 years from 23 June 1803 and had not been at sea for 3 years at the time he was impressed and had a protection. Hopes for his discharge and requests an answer to be addressed to Richard Simpson Junr, Master Mariner, Stephenson Street, North Shields.
Folios 252-253: enclosure with folios 250-251. Affidavit dated 19 June 17805 sworn by Richard Simpson, Master Mariner, of North Shields Northumberland at South Shields in front of Nicholas Fairles, Justice of the Peace for the county of Durham. Collin Smith, son of Lawrence Smith, described in the indentures, recently impressed by Officers belonging to HMS Mosquito [Musquito] commanded by Samuel Jackson, was bound apprentice to Jasper Browell of East Bolden, Durham, for 3 years from 23 June 1803. He believes he never served at sea before this date. he believes he is still detained on board the ship despite having had a protection dated 31 October 1803.
