Description

Folios 218-219: Samuel Jackson, HMS Mosquiito [Musquito], Yarmouth Roads. Replies to enquiry of 31 [January 1805] to state the case of Benjamin Cooper now serving on his ship. Benjamin Cooper informs him that he ran away from his Master because of ill treatment in 1803. he went to Liverpool and entered at the rendezvous there and was not impressed as claimed by his Master. He was sent round to Plymouth in a tender and from there to Portsmouth with a draft of boys sent to the Mediterranean fleet on board HMS Kent and paid off from her at Chatham and was afterwards sent on board the Mosquito [Musquito] to compete her complement of boys.

Folios 220-221: enclosure with folios 218-219. Letter dated 28 January 1805 from Thomas Fletcher, 63 Snow Hill, Birmingham to the Lords of the Admiralty. Benjamin Cooper an apprentice bound to him by indenture for 7 years left his service ad was impressed and is now on board HMS Mosquette [Musquito] lying in Hull Roads. Asks for a discharge to be sent to the ship.
