Folios 162-163: Nicholas Ingram, Sea Fencibles, Weymouth. On Tuesday evening the Abergavenny East Indiaman working into Portland Road off the Shambles was driven on by the ebb tide for more than 2 hours. When se cam off she made a great deal of water. he thinkls the Captain intended to run her on shore near Weymouth but a squall came up and she suddenly went down about 2 and a quarter miles off Weymouth. No more than 120 men were saved. The Captain and 1st Officer went down in the ship with about 270 men The 4 Indiamen who were in company are at anchor in Portland Roads. He has asked HMS Daring gun brig commanded by Lieutenant Ormsby who is under Admiral Montague's orders to stand by. He and his men were active in getting the sails out of the ship. He hopes they will approve of his orders. he could not write sooner as he was off as soon as he heard of it in the morning and when he came back it was too late for the post.
