Description

Folios 149-150: Henry Inman, HMS Triumph, off Ushant. William Slaughter, Gunner, a good old man but worn out, applied to him at Spithead for a survey in order to be superceded. There was no time to do it then but when he got to Cork he applied to Admiral Drury and the report of the survey was left with him. He was again ordered away suddenly. He has just shown a copy of that report to Lord Gardner who advised him to state the circumstances so that another may be appointed. Encloses a copy of the report. there is one Captain's signature missing as he was too ill to execute it the morning he sailed. Asks for Adam Kellock, late Gunner of HMS Hornet paid off at Plymouth, to be appointed.

Folio 151: enclosure with folios 149-150. Report dated 28 May 1805 signed by Robert Honyman, Captain of HMS Leda, John Davie, HMS Favourite and blank signature of Captain of HMS Eurus, ill in bed, given on board HMS Triumph. Following an order from William O'Brien Drury, Rear Admiral of the Blue, they have been on board HMS Triumph and taken a survey of Mr Slaughter the Gunner. They are of the opinion that die to rupture and old age a warm climate would endanger his life.
