Folio 408: George Irwin, Regulating Officer, Deal. Reply to letter dated 17 December 1803, he states that John Bounker and John Gilbert were Impressed by Lieutenant Hugh Anderson and his Gang (By Information) between Sandwich and Deal, One said he was an American, the other would not tell what he was, both refused in the most positive manner to enter though asked several times during the afternoon. When taken onboard HMS Utrecht they offered to volunteer which he refused as he was sure they would quite the Service at the first opportunity.
