Description

Folios 355-356: George Irwin, Regulating Officer, Deal. Covering letter for the enclosed [not present] Return of the Numbers of Men procured for the His Majesty's Fleet by the Lieutenants under his direction between 24 July 1803 & 31 July 1803. He also encloses a letter he has received from the Commission for the Sick and Wounded Seamen saying it was their opinion that it would be proper to employ Doctor Boys Surgeon of the Naval Hospital near this place to examine the Men Raised at Deal. He reports that Mr Fitzgerald (Late Acting Surgeon of the Hospital) has been employed by him on that service since he has been at Deal as he in very near the Rendezvous and the Hospital is two miles away. The men raised are sent off as soon as possible to prevent Riots and desertions. He has no other objection to employing Doctor Boys that the distance he resides from Deal. He awaits their Orders.

Folio 357: enclosure with folios 355-356. Letter dated 26 July 1803 by John Harvey, J Weiad & A Baird, Office for the Sick and Wounded Seaman [Board], to George Irwin, Regulating Officer, Deal. Acquainting him of their opinion that it will be proper for the Men raised at Deal for His Majesty's Navy to be examined by Doctor Boys of the Royal Naval Hospital at Deal, the Admiralty Board having approved of this service being performed by the Officers of this Board.
