Description

Folios 328-329: George Irwin, Regulating Officer, Deal. Covering letter for the enclosed letter from Lieutenant Charles Burlton respecting Lawrance Smith Impressed by him in Dover. He also acquaints them that Captain Sykes Commanding HMS Hecla Bomb [Vessel] Impressed the Ticketmen, as follows:- (HMS Hecla) James Agar, Thomas Nearn & John Chidrick (HMS Lyden) John Bree, on their return to Deal after taking up the River the East Indiaman John Bree Ticketman belonging to Dover was Impressed some time ago and is now serving on board HMS Lyden in Lee Roads. He requests an order for them to be discharged as we shall not be able to procure people to take the ships up the River, that have had there men Impressed.

Folios 330-331: enclosure with folios 328-329. Letter dated 31 May 1803 by Charles Burlton. Dover, to George Irwin, Regulating Officer, Deal. Reply to the enclosed letter [Folios 332-333]. He states that Lawrence Smith was found on the Quay about six o'clock in the morning and from his appearance was going to enter on board one of the Vessels fitting out at this place.

Folios 332-333: enclosure with folios 328-329.Letter dated 25 May 1803 by George Stringer, Justice of the Peace, Dover, to the Admiralty. States Lawrance Smith who was Impressed on 25 May 1803 on shore by Lieutenant Charles Burlton. Request he be discharged.
