Folio 204: Richard Jones, Sea Fencibles, Swansea. Covering letter for the enclosed [not present] Weekly Return of the Sea Fencibles in this District. He also encloses a letter he received from Lieutenant Samuel Sawyer on the subject of Laying Duties, on his House and Income. He observes that if this could be resolved for all the Lieutenants.
Folios 205-206: enclosure [attached] to folio 204. Letter dated 3 December 1803 by Samuel Sawyer, Oxwich Castle, to Richard Jones, Sea Fencibles, Swansea. States that as per his orders of last August he repaired to Porteynon [Port Eynon] to train the Sea Fencibles but since now he has to exercise the Sea Fencibles at Porteynon [Port Eynon], Rossilly [Rhossili] and Oxwich and the his distance from one point to the other, that is from Rossilly [Rhossili] to the Mumbles is about fifteen miles. In order to do his duty he purchase a house but he is liable to pay the Duty for such and hopes the Navy will be able to assist. He also informs that the Parish Officers have delivered a schedule to fill up on the income Tax and as Lieutenants in the navy in the last War were not required to pay. He hope this may also be resolved.
