Folios 584-585: Charles Jones, HMS Ceres, Spithead. Requests a Pension for following reason. On 25 December 1801 the Ceres was in quanrantine at the Mother Bank with part of 42nd Regiment on board, among whom there were several cases of opthalmia. As he had visited the interior of the ship and attending to her cleanliness caught the disorder. Has receovered from illness. Saw Dr Hope of Haslar Hospital several times and he will vouch for the illness.
