Folios 557-558: Richard Jones, HMS Diligence, Nore. Would recommend to fill the vacancy he has for a Lieutenant, Thomas Hewland, late of HMS Hyaena now HMS Batavier. Captain Granger speaks highly of him and in letter to Captain Mitchel of HMS Zealand recommends him as worthy of promotion. Captain Broughton also recommends him in strongest manner as a diligent officer. Has no knowledge of him but interested as wish to appoint a good zealous officer to the Diligence.
