Folios 291-292: Richard Lane, HMS Acasta, Carlisle Bay, Barbados. Reports his arrival with HMS Dromedary and a convoy of 97 ships. He has dispatched HMS Tamer [Tamar] with the ships bound to St Vincents, Tobago, Trinidad and Grenada with orders to see them safely to their destinations and afterwards return to her former cruising ground according to directions she may have received from Admiral Harvey. He will proceed with the remainder of the convoy bound to the different islands and Jamaica, calling at Martinique on his way according to the Rear Admiral's directions. Reminds their Lordships of the improper behaviour of the Captain of HMS Swallow who left him on 13 January [1798] without apparent reason and who had arrived at Martinique 6 days previous to their arrival there, thus leaving a large convoy without any assistance to keep them together, HMS Arethusa and HMS Hawke having parted company2 days preceding.
