Folios 182-183: Charles Henry Lane, Plymouth. Encloses a list of Portuguese who which to enter HM service, all of whom state that they were forced into the privateers in which they were captured. He has not found any of the Irish mentioned in Mr Nepean's letter of 3 [November 1798] amongst the prisoners brought in the ships from Ireland, but one of the Officers of HMS Melampus told him a man called Mr Mullins landed with the prisoners from HMS Resolve at Greenock, who may be one of them under a different name. They got rid of some of their invalids yesterday and he will be glad when the non combatants go as the roof is nearly off one of the prisons and they have no place to put the people whilst it is under repair.
Folio 184: enclosure with folios 182-183. Undated list of Portuguese prisoners of war at Plymouth who wish to enter HM Service. List of 25 men showing names, age, time at sea and where born.
