Folios 505-506: William Luke, HMS Caroline, North Sea [Position given]. Reports that on 24 February 1796, as ordered by Rear Admiral Thomas Pringle. he went in quest of the Dutch Fleet, HMS Ambuscade having been ordered to put herself under his command. On the following day at 1 PM we observed from the Masthead the Enemy's Fleet Eighteen in number bearing from us, by six in the evening we were near enough to discover that they consisted of what we judge to be from the distance, nine Ships of the Line, Six Frigates and three Brigs under sail. Due to the weather he lost them He continues to search off the coast of Norway for intelligence but dispatched HMS Ambuscade with this information.
