Description

Folios 160-161: Admiralty minute directing that Commander Philip Brown [Commander Philip Browne] of HMS Plover should be ordered to carry Commanded Edward Killwick of HMS Princess and his witnesses to Plymouth.

Folios 162-163: enclosed with folios 160-161. Letter from Commander Edward Killwick, HMS Princess, to the Admiralty, April 1810. Encloses a letter from Surgeon Joseph Dallaway about the health of Lieutenant James Edward Eastman and a letter from the Transport Board which has prompted him to ask for directions from the Admiralty. He has suggested to Commander Philip Brown [Commander Philip Browne] that HMS Plover should wait in Liverpool until he receives further orders. Also encloses letters from Lieutenant Eastman, Lieutenant George Roach and Master James Duncan, prompted by the news that Commander Killwick had been ordered to Plymouth for the court martial of Lieutenant Philip Archbold. Postscript. In addition to the witnesses he has already asked to testify, seeks permission to also take John Nicholson, Captain of the Hold, former Purser's Steward David Cross and the present Steward, John Smith.

Folios 164-165: enclosed with folios 162-163. Copy of a letter from Lieutenant George Roach, HMS Princess, Liverpool, to Commander Edward Killwick, 23 April 1810. Feels his commanding officer's conduct has been that of an officer and a gentleman.

Folios 166-167: enclosed with folios 162-163. Copy of a letter from James Edward Eastman, Senior Lieutenant HMS Princess, Liverpool, to Commander Edward Killwick, 20 April 1810. As he understands Commander Killwick has been ordered to Plymouth for the court martial of Lieutenant William Archbold, offers his endorsement of the Commander's conduct.

Folios 168-169: enclosed with folios 162-163. Copy of a letter from James Duncan, Master, HMS Princess, Liverpool, to Commander Edward Killwick, 20 April 1809. As he understands Commander Killwick has been ordered to Plymouth for the court martial of the Princess' former First Lieutenant, William Archbold. expresses the opinion that his commanding officer's conduct has been correct throughout.

Folios 170-171: enclosed with folios 162-163. Copy of a letter from Alex McLeary, the Transport Office, to Surgeon Joseph Dallaway, HMS Princess, Liverpool., 24 April 1810. Acknowledges Mr Dallaway's letter asking if he could exchange duty with the Surgeon of HMS Plover in order to be able to attend the court martial in Plymouth of Lieutenant William Archbold. The Admiralty have refused his request, but have asked Admiral William Young to hasten the return of the Surgeon's Assistant belonging to the Princess from Plymouth so that Mr Dallaway may be relieved.

Folios 172-173: enclosed with folios 162-163. Letter from Surgeon Joseph Dallaway, HMS Princess, Liverpool to Commander Edward Killwick, 26 April 1810. Does not think the health of Lieutenant James Edward Eastman will allow him to assume temporary command of the Princess while Commander Killwick is in Plymouth for the court martial of Lieutenant William Archbold.
